The goal of deep tissue massage treatment is to correct the connective tissue and muscles at deeper layers. It is particularly helpful for persistent aches and pains, aching shoulders, low back discomfort, constricted areas including stiff neck and upper back, and tight muscles in the legs.
Because deep tissue massage requires forceful pressure to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia, it might not not often a soft, soothing experience. It’s important to be honest with your massage therapist about your degree of comfort, your ability to handle pain, and any particular places that are bothering you. After the massage, you could feel a little sore, but this should usually go away in a day or two, leaving you with better muscle function and less pain.
